Fall '15 in DC: What's Orientation Week Like?

The first week of the Penn In Washington Fall 2015 semester has been amazing!! We arrived in Washington D.C. last Sunday. After enjoying a wonderful meal at Nando's, an African restaurant, we spent the first day of orientation getting to know one another. Andrew, Alexa, Jacques, Raheem, and I decided to take a picture in front of the White House on the beautiful Monday evening in our nation's capitol.

Orientation week was full of informational and exciting visits. After visiting and touring Congress, our cohort was able to visit Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey's office. During the office visit we had the opportunity to speak to Senator Casey's Chief of Staff James "Jim" Brown. James Brown was very personable and offered career advice to us pertaining to life on Capitol Hill. He explained the importance of relationships on the Hill and gave insight on his atypical path into politics. James Brown worked in the private equity industry for ten years prior to joining Senator Casey's staff. He spoke glowingly about his experience in Congress and the alumni initiative he and Senator Casey have started to help young professionals get the best available opportunities after their service in the office. Cory Johnson, a member of our cohort, will be interning on Capitol Hill at Senator Ron Wyden's office representing her home state of Oregon. Cory received valuable information to help prepare her for her upcoming internship."

Rashan Prailow is a social media ambassador for the Fall 2015 Semester in Washington Cohort. He is majoring in Political Science and interning at the White House's Office of Management and Budget.
