How to Use the Database

Database use is restricted to students of the College of Arts and Sciences. If you are a student in the College, log in using your PennKey to view the internship database.

Penn WebLogin

College of Arts and Sciences students are welcome to explore this database, which includes over 1,000 internship sponsors in Washington.

The database will be useful to you if you know you want to be in Washington but you have no idea what kind of organization you want to work for. It is also useful for students who are very clear about what they want to do in Washington and just need to know which organizations are in that particular field. Many entries in the database have contact information for current and former Penn students that have interned there. You are encouraged to contact them with questions about their experience!

In addition to searching the database, we strongly recommend that you arrange to meet with Dr. Martinez to discuss your interests and help you narrow your search. In those cases where someone in an organization you're interested in is a PIW alumnus, Dr. Martinez can help you figure out how to proceed with your application. Schedule a time to meet with her here, or email with any questions.

Once you narrow your list of potential sponsors (around ten applications should do it for the summer, fewer for semester), it is up to you to prepare applications and send them. Again, feel free to reach out to Dr. Martinez or past PIW students for help during this time. Finally, you may post comments for individual organizations (if you worked for them and had a great experience, for example, that would be useful for other students to know) or let us know when something is out of date or incorrect or miscategorized.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
